As you walk down the Royal Mile from Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Palace, you can explore the small closes and vennels that run down each side of the hill. With the Whisky Heritage Centre, nestling close to the castle and a host of shops, bars, restaurants including Off The Wall, there is everything the visitor to Scotland could want.
Climb up the Outlook Tower and see Edinburgh through a pinhole camera, the Camera Obscura, continue down the Lawnmarket to St. Giles Cathedral, onwards to the Tron Kirk and John Knox's house, past the whisky shops and all the way to the Queen's Scottish Residence, Holyrood Palace where she spends part of her summer. See our controversial new Scottish Parliament building and then wander round onto Holyrood Park Road to the Dynamic Earth Centre. If Edinburgh's Old Town doesn't satisfy your interest in architecture then how about exploring the Georgian New Town, the Athens of the North.
Edinburgh is well known to lovers of the arts and music for its art galleries and museums, for its annual International Festival and for the Festival Fringe; to visitors from all over the world for the Military Tattoo & famous Hogmanay / New Year Celebrations; to farmers and stock breeders and the agricultural community for the Royal Highland Show; to others for its classical and folk Music scene, Rugby Internationals at Murrayfield and more recently for its International Science Festival. For those who look for authentic and historic Edinburgh and its architecture there is much to see, or if your tastes differ there are many pubs with live music, and comedy clubs.
